How To Bath Your Puppy For The First Time

We have had our new puppy home for around 4 weeks now and things are just starting to odour up, so what is the best technique for giving our new puppy its first bath. One of the best systems that I have developed over many years of trial and error is the playtime zone. This zone is specifically an area where the puppy will become accustomed to having a bath or wash.

Step 1.Start this process approximately 1 week prior to your new puppies first bath, decide on the exact area where you want wash your puppy, ie laundry, garage, bathroom or other outside area. The most important detail at this stage is to create an impression to your new puppy that this is a playtime area, you will do this by involving them with toys, tidbits and generally an area where you can spend around 5 or 10 minutes a day just comforting and playing with your pet. Puppy Training can be so much fun.

Step 2.During this week allow your puppy to become familiar with the exact playtime zone, make them aware of the bathtub or puppy bath by putting them in and out of it, at least 10 times per day, making sure that you have some suitable toys within the bathtub or puppy bath.. 3 days before your planned first bath fill the bottom of the bath with approximately 1 of water, at this stage only put your puppies toys in the bathtub, over the next few days you will notice that your puppy will be wanting to try and involve themselves within the bathtub, once your puppy is comfortable standing in the 1 of water then you are basically ready to start a full bath.

Step 3.Bath Day, stand your puppy in the bath with no water, slowly introduce water but making sure that your puppies first bath should only have around 1 to 2 inches of water at the base, your puppies first bath should really only be a gentle wipeover and clean and leave a full shampoo and wash until at least its 2nd or 3rd bath..Bathtime can be such a wonderful experience for puppy and owner.
