Cerebral Palsy

In the case of Cerebral Palsy there is no one cause of this severe condition. In the majority of cases and average of seventy percent, it results from brain injury before the child is even born this is known as congenital cerebral palsy this would be present from birth but may take months even years to diagnose depending on how severe it illness is. There is also a chance of acquired cerebral palsy which could happen through there being a case of meningitis or brain injuries. This type of cp occurs when the basal ganglion has been damaged and as a result causes involuntary, uncoordinated and uncontrolled movements of the muscles. Spastic CP - This type of CP is the most common of the three it occurs when there has been damage to the cortex, which is the part of the brain controlling thought movement and sensation. The child may need some or all of the following treatments: physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology.

It is possible for the child to attend mainstream schools; the teachers and parents will devise an individualized education program. Home life for a child with cerebral palsy - After a final diagnoses has been evaluated and made it would be really important for the parents to learn as much as they can about the serious condition, this would help them to completely understand the condition and make life as comfortable as possible for the child who is suffering from cerebral palsy. Depending on the damage the legs will either be greatly effected or only mildly it may be only slightly obvious that there is a problem when the child walks or in worse cases both legs are affected and they will be crossed with the toes pointing. There are many things that can cause cerebral palsy such as prematurity, lack of oxygen during birth, head injuries and many more. There are 3 types of cerebral palsy, spastic cerebral palsy, athetiod cerebral palsy, and ataxic cerebral palsy. X-rays and ct scans may be done after diagnosis to try find a possible cause for the cerebral palsy.
