Are You Really Sure That You Want To Work At Home?

The highly ranked dream to work at home is a thorn in most people's minds. What most people don't realize is that there can be drawbacks to working at home as well as working any other career. If you are someone who wants to start your own home based business, you should watch out for these neglected pitfalls, so that you can prepare yourself in advance for whatever inconvenience they may pose on you.

The first one I will discuss is lack of financial security. Working at home and starting your own home based business carries a substantial amount of risk. Unlike earning a steady salary, you will not be receiving a fixed amount of income each month. There's a great possibility that the compensation you receive each month will be small in comparison to your regular job, especially at the beginning or during the start up phase. The upside of this, of course, is that you also stand to gain substantially. Some of the biggest, most profitable businesses in the world today were first small home business start-ups. Companies like Microsoft, The Body Shop, and Coca-Cola are just a few examples of companies that were first started and ran from the proverbial garage.

The second drawback is having to take complete charge and control of your own time. Time can either be put to good, profitable use, or it can be wasted very quickly. If you are not a disciplined person, then you might have a tough time making a work at home venture work for you. After all, being at home usually means that you are comfortable, perhaps too comfortable. You can surf the net, watch TV, fix dinner, play with the kids, shoot some hoops, talk with your friends, read a book, take a nap, there are so many things that threaten to eat up your time when you're at home. If you really want to work at home, you should first make sure that you can carve up a good amount of time to spend on your business. You will need to have the ability to set a schedule and stick with it; otherwise you might be heading down a one way road for financial ruin. However, if you are the kind of person who is willing and able to set your own goals and work hard towards achieving them, then having control of your own time can prove to be an incredible advantage. You will be able to set your priorities, manage your tasks, and minimize the waste of your time. These are a few of the things that are the most difficult to accomplish when you are in someone else's employ.

A third drawback you can encounter is potential isolation. Because you are not forced to interact with other people on a daily basis, you might fall into a tendency to cut yourself off from most daily interactions. This is a danger that those with a more conservative or shy personality may face. In order to counteract this, you simply must allot a portion of your time to meet new friends and talk to people on a regular basis. Never get too involved in your work to the detriment of your social life; you'll just suffer in the end. Remember being alone or closed away from society can have a major impact on your life.

Don't let this little list of work at home downfalls discourage you from taking the plunge, especially if you are a very family oriented person. That's exactly what most people do, which is why you don't see a whole bunch of truly rich people in your neighborhood. Read over this short list of drawbacks and fix in your mind how you intend to overcome these obstacles in your path to riches. While you're thinking about it, I am sure you can even come up with a few other downfalls to working at home to prepare yourself for. It's always better to prepare for the worst in life no matter what you choose to do. So always remember, do your homework first. Knowing your weaknesses is strength and power, never forget that.
